Most of the clipart from this poster was taken from a file folder game I drew - click here.
I started out by asking anyone if they had ever gone on a long trip?. Many raised their hands. I then asked, "How did you get there? Did you just hop in your car and say, 'Take me to Disneyland, touch your nose and whala, you appeared in Disneyland?" Everyone said, "Noooooo..." How did you know which direction to go in to reach your destination? Did you follow a road map? Did you follow the road signs?
I further explained that just like a trip to Disneyland, it takes planning and we need a map to get there. Heavenly Father has created a plan for us, but it is up to us to follow His plan. Everyone has their choice. These things can help us find our way when we travel here on earth.
All of us are on a very important journey, a journey back to our heavenly home. Our destination is the celestial kingdom, where we can live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Heavenly Father has provided a "map" to guide us as we travel back to Him. It is called the Plan of Salvation, or the Plan of Happiness. It is the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Lord's commandments are like road signs to help us reach our destination.
Heavenly Father trusts us to follow His plan on our journey through life. He planned that each of us would come to earth, gain a body, show that we would obey His commandments, and follow the example of His Son, Jesus Christ.
I then showed everyone the poster I had made. I numbered each part of the plan and called up the first person to help me. The first girl opened the first envelope and we spoke about our Pre-mortal Life. Why can't we remember this part of our existence? Some of you may have brothers and sisters still waiting here for their turn. Isn't it exciting to know that Heavenly Father gave us time to prepare to come to this world?
I went through each part of the plan. On some of the cards/pieces I wrote a song on it and we had to sing it before continuing...for example, "I lived in Heaven," etc. On others, I wrote scriptures and we looked them up together. This took the rest of the time to go through each part of the plan.
I summarized by saying that Heavenly Father wants us to have peace inside and has given us a plan to follow so that we can return to him and be happy. Just like when we go on vacation, if we aren't prepared, it can be miserable. If we are prepared, however, we will be happy and have a feeling of peace inside.
As a craft, I had them each make their own body and spirit using paper and wax paper.
