We just finished planning our activity this morning, but on a smaller scale (about 50 kids). We are going to start with a mini lesson/activity just to keep it focused on the importance of Easter. We'll meet in the primary room, and have pictures of different symbols of Easter. We're probably going to have the kids match the symbol to the meaning, and then remove the pictures as they match them to reveal a picture of Christ behind the symbols. This will probably take less than 20 minutes.
Then, we're planning Easter games: Egg relays, etc. We have about 3-4 games we're working on right now.
But, we'll divide the kids first- Jr/Sr. primary. So, while the older kids are playing the games, the younger kids can have an Easter egg hunt and a craft.
Then, we'll reverse and have the younger kids play games while the older kids have the hunt and do a craft. We learned last year that the older kids can be pretty ruthless at an Easter egg hunt, so the younger ones are going to get first chance for egg hunting this year.
For the egg hunt, we ordered some toy filled eggs through oriental trading, and are also using plastic eggs that we'll put candy into. We'll make enough for each child to get about 6 eggs.
For the craft, we ordered kits through Oriental trading. They have a lot of easy craft ideas. We chose the one that is a bunny picture frame for their picture. I'll try to have their pictures pre taken/printed so that they can go home w/ a picture of themselves framed.
At the end, we're having sandwiches, fruit, water, and a rice crispy treat on a stick.
