FOOD IDEAS:
At school I taught a class on fun foods and this was such a hit with all the kids. You can make a cake to resemble a sunflower with little bumble bee's on it. It looks like you went to a lot more effort than it is!! I made a round chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Center it on a large plate (like a foil lined pizza pan). Unwrap a box of twinkies arranging them around the cake for petals. You can place Hershey kisses on the choc cake to make the center look like a sunflower. You can pipe icing along the edges of the twinkies. You make bee's out of small yellow (or white) and black gumdrops. You slice two gumdrops in half using the pointed ends on either end alternating one yellow (or white) slice between the black slices for each bee. They stick together easily and you can add a stick of chewing gum in between for the wings. You insert a toothpick in the back and a broken off piece for the stinger then stand them up on the cake. It is really cute and fun for the girls and an easy idea to take home to share as a fun family activity. (Idea by Susan Bluemel)
Bee Cake
Bee Sting Drink - 1 cup fresh lemon juice, ½ cup honey, 1 quart water, frozen lemon slices. Stir together the lemon juice, honey and water. Pour into tall, ice-filled glasses and garnish with the frozen lemon slices. Serves 5.
Beehive Cinnamon Rolls - My daughter helped me make little beehive cinnamon rolls. We just bought the refrigerated ones at the grocery store. We bought the orange ones so that the frosting would be more honey colored. Then she made little balls of aluminum foil... with a flat side.. then unrolled the cinnamon rolls and then re-rolled them over the ball to form little beehives.. then removed the foil after they were cooked.. I froze them and then Saturday night I warmed the icing in the microwave and then drizzled over the top of the hives to look like honey. I looked for the little chenille bees to stick in them but couldn't find them here and so I just printed out a little clip art bee and glued some little googly eyes on it and hot glued a toothpick to the back and stuck the bee in the hive.
