Before each General Conference, I make a tic-tac-toe board with the name of each member of the quorum of the twelve and the prophet and counselors in the boxes (one name in each box = 15 boxes). Then I tape a piece of candy on each square. When each person speaks my children have to listen and write down what the topic was. After that they can eat the candy on that square while they listen to the rest of the talk. This time we left a square with a question mark for them to fill in the new apostle. I was looking for a quiet activity for Conference for my two young children (2 & 4). So I went to www.lds.org and searched past "Friends" for coloring pages. Each months issue has a coloring page you can print from the computer. I printed about 10 different pages to make a quiet coloring book with gospel pictures for my children. (Idea by Nicole / ga03302008) - (As an FYI, you can also find all the coloring pages from the Friend indexed here.)

Just thought I'd share we do in our family for General Conference. The Monday before Conference we have a special Family Home Evening on the Prophet and Apostles. (This time we are going to watch the "Apostle Song" video to help familiarize them with the General Authorities.) Then on Saturday morning before Conference, each child receives a special gift bag containing a coloring book (that I printed using Church Coloring Pages), a Conference Bingo Card, Apostle Cards, Prophet Matching Game, etc. as well as new colored pencils or crayons and a treat. Something to look forward to and keep them focused on Conference. (Idea by Wendy Artman / ga09262008)

General Conference Bingo Card made by Lynda Whitlock - made to be sent home by Primary Presidency as a way to encourage your children to watch General Conference. Lynda writes: I like this card because it is in color AND reflects the theme for this year. This is such a great time to find the really small bags of M&Ms for the children to use as markers.

HANDOUTS: Conference Candy Lei: How to make a candy lei: Present your child with their very own candy lei on conference morning! Let them open one piece of candy per speaker. There are on average 13-15 speakers for the Sunday session and 11-13 for the Saturday session. Adjust your candy lei length accordingly. I put 15 pieces in the lei I made for my kids just to be safe :) Origami Money Butterfly Instruction

OBJECT LESSONS:I did an object lesson once, played different voices of popular people (entertainment type people that the youth would easily recognize) and had them guess who they were. Then I played the voices of different Apostles and the First Presidency and had them guess those too. It was an awakening for some of the youth on who's voice they know better! If you are technology deficient like I am, I just used the memo feature on my cell phone to record the sound bytes. (Idea by Mary Ahn)

It occurred to me that it would be fun to make a TV box with the paper scrolls to display the topics covered during general conference. The senior primary may be able to name who gave the talk. Make sure to take good conference notes. (Idea by Colleen Jones / ga03012008)
