I really want my children to learn the true meaning of Easter, but not only that, I want them to experience it.  So I am sharing my plans for a week long Easter experience.  We will do these activities each evening...kind of like a evening devotional/activity.  I am using one picture (from the Gospel Art Kit) and discussing it as well as a few other things each day.  After each day is completed, we will post each Gospel Art Kit Picture on our wall until the week is completed.  I am planning on each day's activities lasting between 30-45 minutes.  Hope it helps someone else.   ~ Melanie

Day 1- Hits on Monday Night so this is our plan for FHE

Song -
Easter Hosanna

Scripture -
Read Mark 11:1-10.

We'll discuss the story on back of the picture card.
Click on this link if you need a copy of the story or picture.  You can print this picture if you don't have the kit....there will be a link on the right side that says, "Print Image".

- I am beginning our FHE with a suggestion from "A Christ Centered Easter" by Janet and Joe Hales (wonderful book).  "Begin your Easter week with a "LOA" (Love One Another) table or wall.  Cover a table or wall with poster board or butcher paper.  Encourage everyone to write complimentary notes to each other on the poster board throughout the week.  Keep a pen or a jar of candy near the table to encourage participation.  Read the comments aloud on Easter Sunday."  This would be a new tradition for us, but one I am excited about starting.  Not all of my children can write yet, so they'll draw pictures for members of the family.

- Easter Egg Lesson

- We're all going to make
Edible Tombs.

Day 2  (Tuesday)

Activity - We are going to dress up in New Testament attire (sheets and stuff). I'm going to make a meal that would have been eaten in that time period.  I am going to clear out the furniture, lay out a blanket and have a picnic.  Here is my plan:

Drink - Grape Juice (You could also serve white grape juice)
Other foods I'll have on the table - Raisins, Unleavened Bread (I've posted the recipe below), Hard boiled eggs, mixed berries, green salad w/vinegar dressing, olives

Unleavened Bread Recipe

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine in a bowl: 1 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. baking soda. Cut in 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir in 2/3 cup buttermilk. Mix in one egg and two cups flour. Using a rolling pin, roll dough into several pieces and roll out very thin on a floured board (if not rolled out thin, it will have the consistency of heavy bread). Lay sheet of dough on ungreased flat baking pans. Prick with a fork. Cut into 4-inch squares with a sharp knife or pizza cutter. Bake 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.

Main Course - Lamb or Lamb Skewers.  Since my children are small I thought this would go over well.

1 lb. tender lamb (or beef)
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tablespoon olive oil
salt and pepper or preferred seasonings

- Cut the meat into cubes/strips
- Make a marinade with the olive oil and garlic.  Marinate the meat for at least 45 minutes.
- Run skewers through the meat and place skewers over a charcoal fire (BBQ).  You could also broil them in the oven.  Season to taste.

Dessert - Instead of dessert, I am going to go to a health food store and buy some honeycomb so they can taste wild honey.

This is a short video of our dinner.
