LESSON HELPS: A bit of good news by Michelle Nelson
I had the one girl write on the board an iterneray of a normal day in her life. Then, read the story in the manual about the missionary who's father diet. Then about how missionaries make sacrifices and have to be able to make choices and sacrifices, but lead in to need for obedience to follow rules. Then in the March 2007 New Era is a article "A day in the life of a missionary". I had someone read it, while the girls filled in the missing schedule missionaries keep. we then contrasted the girl's schedule to a missionaries life and talked about how they give up a lot to serve the Lord. Then, there is a simulated missionary game (meant for Primary) but it worked great for Young Women. We played it for about 10 minutes. I had 3 groups with 5 each. Then we talked about how things change quickly on missions and have they sometime get golden contacts etc, and then are transferred. We then ended with the quote by President McKay, and had the girls write a combined letter to our current missionaries, thanking them for the sacrifices of service. (Idea by Kathy Macleod)
