4. To help the children understand the difference between Heavenly Father's plan and Satan's plan I am going to have an object lesson. I am planning on putting out on the table a piece of celery (or something that the class won't necessarily be overly excited about) and tell them all that they have to eat it (no other choice). Then explain to them that that is like Satan. He wouldn't let us have any other choice. Then I will put out other foods (apples, carrots, nuts, candy, etc.) and say okay you can choose what you want to eat. That is like Heavenly Father's plan. The right to choose for ourselves. (Idea by MaryBeth Buffington / ga01162012) *** Just make sure from the parents that no one has food allergies before doing this.
5. Make 8 to 10 large circles and draw smiley faces on them. Post word strips and pictures of Heavenly Father’s commandments and teachings of Jesus Christ around the room (for example, being kind, paying tithing, keeping the Word of Wisdom, obeying our parents, being honest). Make a pathway with string or tape on the floor around the room. This represents the way to follow Jesus Christ. Have the children, all or a few at a time, stand on the pathway. Hand out the smiley faces. Sing Primary songs that teach we can be happy when we obey. As the children sing, let them walk along the path and pass the smiley faces to each other. At the end of the song, those who are holding a smiley face can tell or show one way they can live the commandment posted on the wall nearest them. Sing another song and repeat.
6. Bring a stick to class. Ask one of the children to only pick up one end of the stick and not the other. Of coarse they can't do that. Call it the consequence stick. Explain that once you pick up one end of the stick (choice end) you automatically pick up the other end (consequence end). Therefore, when we choose to follow Jesus Christ, He will bless us. It is automatic. He does this because He loves us very much.
7. Laughing and Losing It
8. Have each child take a turn and name someone in the scriptures who chose to follow Jesus Christ. After each person's turn, they can go to the chalkboard and draw their answer on the board to remind others to choose a different answer.
9. Play the following action memory game. Have everyone stand up. Explain that you will do several actions such as clapping, shaking your head, touching your elbow, and so on. The children must watch carefully. They are to repeat your actions in the same order. Begin with only one action, and add an action each time. Challenge them to see how many actions they can follow. Encourage them to help each other too. Praise them for watching, remembering, and following so carefully. Liken this to remembering Jesus and following his example.

18. I put together a matching game that the children loved playing. The images came from The Friend January 2005, though I re-typed the words to be more legible. I made one large version (must print 2 copies of each for the matching game) on cardstock which they played in class. As they flipped over the cards, I read the message on the card (repetition helps retention). They played it many times, and did not want to stop. They were very happy to learn that I had made each of them a small version to take home to play with their family. I had pre-cut the cards and put the in a baggie for each child. This more legible version of The Friend activity could also be helpful "as is" and used as a little booklet. [pdf] (Shared by Kim Johnson / ga02072014)
