5. “BAPTISM” - The word translated as “baptize” comes from a Greek word that originally meant ‘to dip in dye.’ Bring a small container of water that has been dyed with food coloring or fabric dye. Also bring a small piece of white fabric (or paper). Show the children that as they prepare to be baptized, they will have the ability to to change...just like the character of the paper is changed when it is dipped/baptized in the colored water. Explain that through baptism, we can become as pure and clean as the water that we are baptized in. (Idea from Times and Seasons)
6. Tammie Brooks writes, "Here are a few of the different things I did with this lesson: I placed the 6 drawings on the foot prints and had the children explain what they meant as they walked toward the baptism picture. I also enlarged the pictures and put them all colored on 5X8 cards and talked about them individually asking questions and then reviewed them before they did the walk. I printed off several different pictures of baptism, and made them into puzzles for them to play with while we were waiting for their parents to come and get them. This is the time we also re-listen to the songs we had in the lesson. I made a puzzle to put over the picture about Jesus being baptized, on each puzzle piece back, I added clues about the people in the picture. I read them as they took off the puzzle piece. Example: The two people in this picture are cousins, one of the people in this picture loved to eat bugs." (ga04152010)
